Is weight gain inevitable after dieting?
Asked by anonymous on Mar 21, 2008 in Weight Maintenance

After severely restricting calories for two years, how can I safely increase the amount that I eat? Is significant weight gain inevitable?

Answer

Weight gain in not inevitable if you increase your calories only enough to prevent further weight loss.  Use the Calorie Target tool to recalculate your calorie requirements.  Enter your current weight as your goal weight and set today’s date as your goal date.  Your answer is the number of calories you need to maintain your weight at your present activity level.  Try to follow that calorie goal for awhile, adjusting your intake if you lose or gain.  Make sure you get at least 30 – 60 minutes of moderate exercise most days.  Read about Intuitive Eating in the Calorie Count Plus library so that you can move away from counting calories in time.
