The Senior Corner - Are You Over 50?
September, 2008 - we now have a group! It's called 60s 70s and Higher! There are also age specific groups for all ages. Please stop in an join, and please do participate.
Time for all of us older members to get to know each other. All the youngsters have made themselves known so now it's our turn.
I was 65 in April, 2007, and happily retired.
How about you?
60 (61 in May). You and I already know each other. I have been away lately. I have been reading your journal and praying for you.
I am going to be 59 next month. We aren't older just more experienced lol . Nice to meet both of you on here. Ok, where are the rest of you. Now don't be shy.

Hi everybody. I will be 54 on Feb 02. Been retired for 4 years. I get my annual physical checkup around birthday time. I expect no changes, except I am a few pounds lighter than last year, thanks to this site.
Hi kristym and nubiker!
I can't be the oldest one here! There has to be somebody older than I am!

57 here. But I refuse to be in the senior corner! I am still middle aged, Thank you very much!
Karen, with senior status comes prestige and all kinds of percs! I myself am but a child at heart. Here I am, very proud to have lived this long and determined to live a lot longer.
I just turned 56 years young this month! This site is great, but it just became greater now that I found people my own age. I started dieting in August. It has been an incredibly slow process for me. I have lost 24 pounds but have been stuck at that since early December! I exercise at least 5 days a week for one hour each day. I think I have the slowest metabolism in the world! I am just not able to drink that much water because I would live in the bathroom! I literally can go, stand up, and feel like I need to go again. AND I WILL! I have such a large amount of weight to lose and it is easy to get discouraged. I am currently 225. I am 5-10. I am ready for any and all suggestions. I try to eat between 1500-1700 calories a day. Mostly whole grains, fruit, vegetables, and cottage cheese and chicken. Anybody have the magic answer to speed this up?
I've been trying the tips in this article http://www.googobits.com/print/printer.php?ar ticle=2235
But I've had so much turmoil in my life lately (my 94 year old mother fell and broke two vertibrae) that I go off track, don't have time to log my food, and am so tired when I get in that I just eat whatever is easiest.

I read that article too. The suggestions are helpful, but so far.....NO LUCK! Sorry to hear about your mother.
Duffy, I am stuck at 170-173 for a few months now. With the cold weather, I have not been able to walk my favorite circuit - a 2 mile loop, half of it up hill. I have continued my upper body exercises, done a few binges - donuts and pizza - not at the same time, LOL, and have stayed the same weight. I am satisfied with myself that I am eating healthier and exercising and enjoying my life. I think I will switch from walking to riding a bike - as soon as I get one. I gave my bike away a year after I started riding motorcyles. I went from bike riding 4 times a week to not at all and gained 12 pounds my first year of motorcycle riding.
Here's hoping you figure out a way to break your plateau!!!!

Hi everyone, I am 56 BDay in August. Live in Canada. I have 8 children, 4 grandchildren and I do not feel old. I can still run and play with the kids. Never had a weight problem until the last 10 years. I weighed 128 lbs then. I weighed 190 last year. Went to weight watchers, didn't like it. Lost 4 lbs and then last November started watching what I ate. Measuring my food. Cheat day once a week. 2 litres of water a day. Started Exercise after two weeks. 30 mins of Billy Blanks Tae Bo. and 30-60 min of power walk a day. Lost 20 lbs in 5 weeks. Weighed 166 gained 3 lbs over the holidays and have lost the 3 lbs now back to 166. I want to lose 36 more by summer. I joined the Biggest Loser challange. I have been a bit off since the holidays and starting Monday back to the exercise and measuring my food. Just went grocery shopping and bought lots of fruits and veggies. Nice to meet you all.

Hi everybody....can't believe i'm 55 but here i am...guess it beats the alternative! I've always had a wgt issue and finally had in under contraol about 4 yrs ago. Then I decided to sell my home of almos 30 yrs and move 650 miles away from everybody I know. Needless to say, depression set in and gained 15 lbs in the first 6 months. I managed to work it off and keep it off for a couple years but ended up hurting my back 3 times in the last year. The combination of several months of anti-inflamatories, total inactivity, and lots and lots of comfort foods swelled me up almost 40 lbs. But on 1/2/07 I started going back to the gym and have give up cookies, candy, and ice cream. Seems I have a sugar addiction and cannot eat it in moderation, so I have to stay completely away from it. The rest of my diet is healthy and I've lost 9.5 lbs so far, down to 168 from 177.5. CC says I should weigh 127 and I dont want to think about anything more than the next lb! It's nice to meet all of you 50 somethings!
finally! Somebody older than me - but it sounds like your physical age is younger because of all that activity! Hi stanbob!
Hi Claire. Lucklily I have the time to do all this. It would be impossible if I was working and had a family.
