Where did you go to College?

Quote  |  Reply
Hi everyone,
I'm currently a freshman in college but really not liking my school as much as I thought I would.I'm not exactly sure what I want to major in so it makes it that much harder to consider other schools.
I was wondering where people went to college, what they majored in and what they now do for a living.
Any response would help,thanks!

I sold time on a dating line for a year and know I sell audio/web conferencing.

My parents are still shaking their heads :)
i am a high school drop out so i cant help you there i am sorry!
I say stick with it.  I am 30 years old and have some college behind me.  I was accepted into a major college upon graduating high school and decided to get married and have babies.  Now almost 12 years later, (a divorce, another child, and four step-children) (yes that makes six boys total I raise..lol) I would do anything to go back to 12 years ago and start over.  I have the same problem.  I go for awhile and can't seem to figure out what I want to do.  Well now I have figured it out and just simply don't have the time.  I would do anything to go to college!!  So just hang in there..It will get better.  Besides my kids I would do anything to be in your shoes.  I am a teachers aid and do almost as much as the teachers do and I bring home way less money because I don't have a degree...Hang in there and best of luck...
I'm finishing up my junior year of college and just now decided what I want to major in.  It was worth the wait, though... I'm very happy where I am and with what I'm doing!
I graduated from UCLA with a BA in Economics.  Stayed on for a year as a researcher and am continuing to grad school to do my PhD in Economics at Northeastern Universty.  Most likely will end up doing consulting in biotech/pharma.

Do you tend to prefer Humanities or Science?  What is your current college and why don't you like it?  Too big?  Too small?

Hmm I'm actually thinking of taking an Econ class next semester to see what it's like.I definitely like Humanities over Science...Social sciences interest me though.
I go to Drew University in NJ.it's basically too small and the social aspect that is here is not really what I wanted. There is no real school spirit which i thought i didnt need but i guess i do.It's pretty small and the town is not a college town at all-it pretty much closes down at 6pm.
what sucks is that the classes are the perfect size! the biggest one i've been in is 35 people.
I hated college when I started. I had a great time, but when I graduated (in 2003) I was so happy to be out of there... and now I'm in graduate school, go figure.

I studied psychology and math in undergrad (at Bethany College in WV) and now I'm taking school counseling (at Geneva College in PA).

Hope everything works out for you!
Move to Hawaii, go to college.

Graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla with a degree in philosophy and a minor in classics.  I moved to Lake Tahoe where I discovered my education wasn't good for much but painting houses and being a ski bum.  Enjoyed that for a while, then went to law school and graduated from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego.  Now I'm a law clerk and work for a judge, at least until August.  After that ... ?
University of Wisconsin - Madison = TONS of school spirit, lots of social (almost too much) and lots of majors to choose from.  Madison is a very hip yet not to big city and if you miss the big city Chicago is not to far away.
masters degree here :)
I got my associates degree at a community college here in Columbus, Ohio.  Im getting ready to start at the University of Phoenix online soon for my BA in psychology, they have great programs for people that work full-time.
Before getting married, I was studying at a UC.

This school really wasn't my first choice but I was pleasantly surprised.  The subdivided college I was assigned to has large emphasis on Ethnic Studies and social studies.  I learned a lot and it opened my eyes to a lot more interesting things in life.   I gotta tell you.  I absolutely Loved college and learning.  << Bored to be a nerd>>

Don't be afraid to change your major.  I was a Chemical Engieering major but found it to be too dry and boring for me.  Economics and business really interests me more.
Penn State Ra, Ra, Ra

I started studying Special Ed then got discouraged.  I should have shopped around like you are doing.  I switched to Art Ed because most of my credits would transfer over easily.  I've spent most of my life now, living in Costa Rica teaching English.  I'm 52 years old.

Even though you plan and think this is what you're going to do for the rest of your life, on the road the choices we make open other doors that we didn't think about and couldn't have thought about way back when.

What ever you end up doing; if you're happy, that's where you ought to be.  When you find that you're having more bad days than good ones that's the time to start thinking if a change is needed.

Life's Good !
i'm a college freshman too. but i have decided on my major. mass communications. i love to write. i wanna write novels for many years. they make me happy. ^_^
I went to Columbia College in Chicago for four yrs. I majored in journalism with a concentration in broadcast. Currently, I'm working as a marketing assistant/analyst for a healthcare company.
Never did the college thing.  I worked for an insurance company out of high school - back in the late 70's you didn't need a college degree to fllip burgers - after years moved to AZ and worked insurance - now I work for Drs doing their billing - make better $$ than hubby who has a degree.  I miss the good old days when " on the job training and work experience" counted for something.  I feel sorry for my kids who will have to go to a trade school or something just to get a job.

I remember many years ago reading a book and the guy called this college degree stuff " Education inflation".  Like I said above in my day you got a job the employer taught you the "real world" way to do that job and if you did well you moved up the company ladder.  You didn't need a degree to be an administrative assistant if you could type and answer the phones you were qualified.  Now it seems you have to have a degree to do anything.  My husband was "interim dean" at the comm college while they took their time hiring someone - he couldn't be hired for the job he was doing because he didn't have a masters  he did the job just fine for 2 years but because he doesn't have that piece of paper he cant have it permanently.
I go to IU right now.  I am a soph. majoring in Telecommunications and minoring in business.  I am hoping to do advertising or marketing with my degree
Yea, dbackerfan, College doesn't always guarantee better salary. My husband, with nothing after high school, makes a lot more money than I do.  He started a tourist transportation business with the money we managed to save and with money from my generous parents.

Just remember ammoruso, whatever you do it will help later on in your life. My courses in Special Ed really helped me with teaching English as a second language.
