The chat in which a question of extreme importance is asked and debated

Which decade had the absolute best music? Was it the jazz eras of the 20s and 30s? Was it early rock and roll of the 50s? Classic Rock of the 70s? New Wave in the 80s? Alternative in the 90s?

This question is of extreme important, so you MUST answer ;)

Also, howdy all!

Yo!  50's and 60's!
50's and 60's, eh? So you're a "classic rock" kinda gal, eh?

I've got one vote in for the 80s. The 80s had the best music.
Hey everybody!  I'm back!
aquade's right...it's the 50s and 60s that were the best.  They inspired what transformed into the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond!
I almost said the 80's.
torn between 80s and 90s.... think itl have to be 80s.

no 90s!!! defo 90s
Heya kim, glad to see you.

Theoretically, though, neeners.. even the 50s and 60s were built upon the Blues and Jazz scene of the 20s, 30s and 40s.

I've got nothing against classic rock, mind. I'm just saying that I think most of the best music came out in the 80s :)
aquade...well, any answer is cool.  I still think the early rock inspired what we have - even today.
howard...actually, if we want to get technical, the classics like Mozart and Bach inspired the blues and music in the 20s and 30s.  AND, the hymns of the ages were also inspirational for a new wave of music...like John Wesley and Martin Luther.

So...that's my 2-cents.
Hi clairebare

Agreed, neeners, everything's built on everything else. :)
You're right, neeners. :)
Pokes head in...........

I think that it is the late 60's early 70's that has the best music. Really great rock there.

I'm not sure you can group the 50s and 60s together without assuming all of it to come out was "solid gold".
I say '20 & '30's.  Not that I'm a fan.
Y'all have a good chat cuz I've got to do some work now. The day begins!
80's.  + some 90's.  Tho, especially the late 90's early 2Ks music really started to homogenize.  Several bands had the same sound.  Even somewhat true of the grundge era.
::pokes head in before running out::

80s music was/is by far the most FUN.  Not the best technically or whatnot, but I could Roger Rabbit all day long ;)
See ya, neeners.

Really, ssbuckeye, it's not fair to dump a whole decade together.. I mean, for example.. the 70s is a perfect example. It's got some GREAT music.. I love the Classic Rock stuff.. BUT.. it also has Disco. Blegh.

It'd be fairer to mention music types, but.. that wasn't the question and I wasn't trying for fair ;)
Yeah, I agree.. nowadays alot of bands sound exactly the same.. or you can tell they're hot because they sound LIKE someone, like right now all the bands that have similar sounds to coldplay. Blah.
hey hk.

yeah, i only say 90s cos of the britpop thing here in the uk- oasis, blur, pulp. it was brit-tastic!
but i do love the 80s, so cheesy.
Very true HK :)

Ok, I have an exam this afternoon for which I better go cram.....

wish me luck!!
Good luck! :)
