I can't stop thinking about food. Am I obsessive?
Asked by anonymous on Jun 08, 2008 in Emotional & Behavioral Issues

I always think about food and feel like I have to eat it when I see it.  Is there any way to solve it easily (without seeing a doctor)?

Answer

Only a doctor or mental health therapist can say if your “obsession” is a disorder, but obsessing about food is a psychological sign of semi-starvation.  You might be experiencing a reaction to under-eating and a fear of rigid dieting. When every meal feels like your last, the natural tendency is to hoard food. Read an interesting article about how diets lead to food preoccupation on About.com, and switch to the Intuitive Eating method of weight control to put an end to dieting and obsessing.
